The Canadian School Counselling is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal written for school counsellors, psychologists, mental health practitioners, clinicians and those who work with students in a Kindergarten to Grade 12 setting or community agency.

CSC publishes two journals a year in partnership with The Manitoba School Counsellors’ Association and The Manitoba Teachers’ Society. CSC invites manuscripts reflecting theory, research, and practice in school counselling. Relevant book reviews, conference proceeding and interview transcripts are also welcome. CSC accepts descriptions of new counselling techniques or programs, and discussions of current counselling issues or strategies for supporting children and youth.

Editorial Board

Invitation to Submit an Article

Counsellors are invited to submit articles, book reviews, conference write-ups, etc. to the Manitoba Journal of Counselling. This is your opportunity to be published and share your expertise with your collegues.

Guidelines for Contributors

  1. Manuscripts submitted to CSC should contain original research, theory or accounts of practice. Only original papers not previously published, submitted for review or scheduled for publication elsewhere should be submitted. Submission of a manuscript to the CSC represents clarification on the part of the author(s) that it is original work that has not been published previously.

  2. All submissions will be screened to ensure that the content falls within CSC’s mandate and that they meet basic academic standards. Authors will be notified promptly through email when the paper does not meet academic standards.

  3. CSC will only accept electronic submissions. Electronic submissions of articles should be formatted in Microsoft Word or Rich Text Format and sent to the editor, Dr. Jan Stewart at The University of Winnipeg, ja.stewart@uwinnipeg.ca.

  4. An abstract of 75 to 100 words should be submitted on a separate sheet.

  5. Articles should not exceed 6,000 words in length (including abstract, references, tables, and figures), with 1 inch margins using Times New Roman 12 point font.

  6. A title page should include the title of the paper, name of the author(s), his/her affiliation, a word count, email address, telephone, and fax number. The title page will be removed by the Editor prior to the refereeing process.

  7. To ensure anonymity in the review process, papers should not include identifying information in headings or additional pages in the paper.

  8. Receipt of the manuscript submission will be acknowledged within a few days by email.

  9. Manuscripts should be written in accordance with the publication manual of the American Psychological Association (5th Edition). All manuscripts must include a double-spaced alphabetical list of references with full publication information included.

  10. The peer review process normally takes between 6-8 weeks to complete. Following this stage, a letter will be sent to the author informing him/her of the status of the submission.
